The idea came from finishing Peter Mayles 1989 book "A year in Provence". The idea of getting away from the rat race to live in the south of France. What a nice idea!!
My new exhibition has opened at the Famous Blue Raincoat, 25b Vernon Street, South Kingsville VIC. Open Tuesday to Sunday 9.30am to Late. Please come down and check it out! They have a excellent menu or grab a coffee?
Here is the latest painting from me. It's called "A little birdy told me" and he speaks German!! "Du machst mich so glücklich!!" in english "You make me so happy!!" The size of the canvas is 1000 x 1000mm and painted in acrylic. He will be on display at a exhibition later in the year.
Here is a small painting i did back in early 2007. Themed around a nice early spring, warm sunny day relaxing after having a beautiful sunday picnic lunch. A Couple of glasses of Sangiovese..Mmmmm...when is it Sunday again??
I get inspired from McLaren Vale in South Australia. It is quite a beautiful area with some famous wineries which are the best in Australia. Dry rolling hills with the green vineyards are my backdrop. The early settlers in South Australia built their houses out of Mt.Gambier stone which give it a southern european feel to the area especially. Coriole winery is a great example and one of my favourite places when I am back home. For more information: http://www.mclarenvale.info or http://www.coriole.com
I was asked by a couple of people to try a darker style of paintings. My paintings are usually bright and happy, why not try a darker, gothic style (Thinking of Tim Burton movies). But they were kinda depressing to work on! Black crows, snow, winter and red blood, they were good graphic elements. I think I shocked people when they were in my exhibition last year. And they sold! I might try it again? or not?
Sydney....My favourite city!! This place has a great international city vibe. The beautiful harbour, the design icon...The Sydney Opera House and the other icon...The Harbour bridge. I went up to visit my old Uni friend, Kirsten last April. She showed me around of her Sydney. It was so much fun. My favourite breakfast of all time was at: Deus Ex Machina's cafe in Camperdown. Dare Jennings - Former owner of Mambo clothing (All Hail!!) his new business which has restoring old motorbikes and bicycles into works of useable art. Also there is Deus clothing. The cafe is very popular on weekends and the coffee is the best I have ever tasted. Check out their website: http://www.deus.com.au
Now this is going back now...I did these paintings as 2 Illustrations back in 2002 in Gouache on Illustration board. In 2006, I did them again on canvas in acrylic. Dog Gone!....alll good dogs go to heaven!
Copenhagen ...The design capital!! We have been to Copenhagen and Denmark a couple of times now. Still one of the best places in Europe to visit. I hope you enjoy some of my photos of one of our trips to Denmark. I would love to stay at Hotel Fox next time. It is really cool!! Check out their website: http://www.hotelfox.dk
